Antonio Vivaldi’s set of 4 violin concertos, the Four Seasons, is one of the most recognized pieces of Baroque music. First heard in the early 1720’s, this timeless work has inspired recent reinterpretations including recordings by Max Richter and Gilles Apap & The Colors Of Invention. These modern recordings lie at the heart of this work as the dancers bring life to Vivaldi’s most famous work. His descriptive music not only depicts the earth’s cycle of the seasons but also conveys the ebb and flow of human behavior. Introduced to me as a child by my brother, the Four Seasons remains especially meaningful to me as my appreciation deepens with every passing year.
