
DANCER
Emma is an artist and activist based in Colorado Springs. She is currently interested in exploring various aspects of their identity through movement, as well as connecting her movement practice to ancestral roots and traditional knowledge. Emma is also interested in maintaining and nourishing community and collectivism through movement and embodied knowledge.
As a queer disabled artist, Emma has first-hand experience as to the impact tapping into and embracing embodied knowledge. They hope to develop opportunities for others to discover their embodied agency in the future. Her creative work reflects her values and curiosity, and can be sampled here. Emma has enjoyed further developing their creative process and movement practice through multidisciplinary art forms, particularly through collage.
Emma has had the opportunity to work with several guest artist during her time at Roger Williams. Her resume includes works by Heidi Henderson, Nattie Trogdon and Hollis Bartlett, Nicole Gallo, Shawn Ahern, and Mike Tyus. While taking part in the Roger Williams “Dancing in London” program, she danced under the tutelage of Renaud Wiser and Stephen Pelton. She also was in works created by faculty members Cathy Nicoli, Michael Bolger, and Ashely Rich.
Emma had the opportunity to collaborate with Dzeli Palmer and the Telegraph School in Cherry Valley, NY, on several creative projects. They served as a performer and assistant director of Water Dreams, an interdisciplinary and community lead project that raised awareness for the community’s connection to it’s waterways. Emma assisted in creating the Roving Dance Party, which brought ecstatic dance to various rural communities in Upstate NY. They also performed in the Improvised Arts Festival as a dance and contact improviser with other dancers, musicians, and visual artists.
